What is the modified McMurry’s test?

A

Supine Lying
Knee is flexed and ankle in Dorsi flexion
The ankle is then scooped round left and right
Tests for meniscal tears

Sweep Test

A

Hand is moved superiorly on the medial aspect of the knee
The hand is then moved inferiorly on the lateral side
Positive result is a bulging or wave on the medial side of the knee

What is the Patella Tap Test/Ballotment Test?

A

Patient lying supine knee extended
One hand pushes down top of the leg to the patella
Their hand stays firmly here while the patella is tapped
Bouncing back or floating is a positive result

A

Fix thigh with yours 
Compress the tibia then rotn (both med
and lat) 
Then repeat with distraction

A

+ve test is pain
meniscal is with compression
If distraction causes increase pain
then ligamentous

What is Valgus and Varus testing?

A

Patient is lying supine
Their Tibia is moved medially testing the lateral collateral ligament
Laterally to test the medial collateral ligament
Positive test will be pain and loss of stability/ greater movement than opposite limb

What are the Anterior and Posterior Cruciate Ligament Tests?

A

Knee is in 90 degrees flexion
Sit on gently on the foot of the patient
The tibia is pulled anteriorly testing the Anterior Cruciate Ligament Test
The Tibia is forced posteriorly testing the Posterior Cruciate Ligament
Positive test will be increased movement in either ligaments

A

The knee is in 30 flexion
The Tibia is pulled anteriorly testing the ACL
Positive test = increased mobility > opposite limb

What is the Clarke’s Test/Patella grind test?

A

Compression of patella against trochlea
Contraction of quads isometrically
+ve=Looking for pain recreation and feeling any
grinding, clicking or alteration in symptoms
Compare with other limb
