  • Heated NaOH (aq) - hydroxide ion replaces halogen so forms Halide ion (X-) and an Alcohol
  • HNO3 (aq) - neutralises excess NaOH
  • AgNO3 (aq) - precipitate of AgX formed as has reacted with X-
