Q

What are the steps in the ATP-PC system

A
  1. ATP requires resynthesizing
  2. Creatine phosphate (fuel source) is present in the muscle cell
  3. Creatine phosphate is broken down to provide the energy required
  4. One PC molecule produced one new ATP molecule

Q

What are the benefits/disadvantages of the system

A

Benefits

  • PC is stored in the muscle, so is readily available to be used
  • no oxygen is required (anaerobic)
  • simple reaction means that energy production can happen very quickly
  • no negative by products

Disadvantages
- only sustains muscle for approx 10 seconds
