the climate smart agriculture (CSA) Flashcards
(7 cards)
what are the three main aims of the CSA?
increase productivity
enhance resilience
reduce emissions
what does increasing productivity include?
produce more and better food
improve nutrition security
boost incomes for those who rely on agriculture for their livelihoods (75% of the world poor depend on this)
what does enhancing resilience include?
reduces vulnerability to drought, pests, diseases, climate related risks
improving the capacity to adapt and grow in the face of longer term stresses eg shortened seasons and erratic weather patterns
what does reducing emissions include?
pursue lower emissions for each calorie or kilo of food produced
avoid deforestation
find ways to absorb carbon out the atmosphere
if human induced climate change didn’t take place, how much higher would our productivity % in producing food be since 1961?
21%
with global population set to rise to more than 9 bn by 2050 how much will food production have to increase by?
70%
