12
Q

how is the sun an input of energy into a coast system

A

-creates wind
-photosynthesis (more plants to trap sediment)

13
Q

which type of wave is an input to a coastal system and why

A

constructive because it has low energy and a larger swash so it brings in sediment to the beach

14
Q

how is wind created

A

the sun heats up the different parts of the land, the hottest part will heat the air up and create low pressure, this then leads to a convection current

15
Q

how are waves created

A

the wind interacts with the sea surface causing frictional drag, this forms little ripples and as these get closer to land there is increased friction with the sea bed, this causes the wave to grow and topple over

16
Q

what is an example of a store on a coast

A

-beach
-sanddune

17
Q

what must be greater to get a store on a coast, input or output?

A

input

18
Q

what are outputs of energy/matter in a coastal system

A

-destructive waves
-dissipation of energy
-riptides

19
Q

does aeolion mean

A

wind

20
Q

what is a current

A

movement of water in one direction

21
Q

what are 3 variables which affect the size of a wave

A

-wind speed
-duration of wind
-fetch distance

22
Q

what are three characteristics of a constructive wave

A

-flat and gentle shape
-low frequency (6-9 a min)
-long wavelength (up to 100m)

23
Q

what are 3 characteristics of a destructive weave

A

-steep
-high frequency (10-14 a min)
-short wavelength (20m)

24
Q

what size material do constructive waves carry

A

small fine sediment
