The money is not just going up. Strong economic growth, low unemployment and rising living standards, largely supported by Keynesian economics policies.

Lyndon B. Johnson and the great Society
LBJ’s ambitious liberal reform program aimed to ending poverty and racial injustice. Include Medicare, civil rights laws, and education funding but was overshadowed by the Vietnam war
Neoliberalism and Friedrich Hayek
Economic philosophy favoring free markets, privatization, and limited government. Hayek’s The road to serfdom warned that state control leads to tyranny
Jerry Falwell
Evangelical preacher who founded the moral majority. , Mobilizing conservative Christians into politics and fueling the religious right.
Young Americans for freedom
A youth conservative group formed in 1960, supporting limited government, free enterprise, and anti-communism; helped energize the conservative movement.
Barry Goldwater
1964 republican candidate who opposed civil rights legislation and big government. Lost badly but inspired a new wave of conservatism
Stagflation
Economic crisis of the 1970s with stagflation growth and high inflation challenged Keynesian models and paved the way for conservative, free- market policies.
Richard Nixon
Republican president 1969-74 who appealed to the “silent majority.” Watergate scandal led to his registration

Nixon secret unit to stop leaks like the Pentagon Papers, released by Daniel Ellsberg, revealing IS deception in Vietnam
Watergate
Break-in at DNC headquarters, followed by Nixon cover-up. Exposed by journalists Woodward and Bernstein. Led to Nixon Resignation in 1974.
Jimmy Carter
Democratic president 1977-81. Seen as ineffective during economic turmoil and the Iran hostage policy.
Iran hostage crisis
US embassy staff held hostage in Iran -979-81. Made Carter look weak; Reagan benefited politically.
Ronald Regan
Former actor and governor of California; elected president in 1980. Became the face of modern conservatism.
Reaganomics ( Supply-side or trickle-down )
economic policy of tax cuts for the wealthy, deregulation, and cutting social spending. Critics said it worsened inequality.
PATCO strike
Reagan fired over 11,000 air traffic controllers in 1981. Weakened unions and signaled a shift in labor relations.
Morning vs. Midnight in America
Reagan campaign ad painted a rosy picture of American renewal (“Morning”). Critics like Bruce Springsteen (in Born in the USA) showed economic pain and decline (“ A dead Man’s Town”)
