What is the Cornea + function

A

The front part of the tough outer coat, the sclera, convex, transparent. Refracts light/ bends it as it enters the eye

What is the Iris + function

A

Pigmented - light cant pass through - muscles contract to alter size of pupil which controls how much light enters the pupil.

What is the lens + function

A

Flexible disc behind the iris attached by the suspensory ligaments to the ciliary muscles. Focuses light onto the retina

What is the retina + function

A

The lining of the back of the eye: photoreceptor cells - rods - sensitive to dim light + black + white - and cones - sensitive to colours. Contains the light receptors

What is the optic nerve + function

A

Bundle of the sensory neurones at the back of eye. Carries impulses from the eye to the brain.
