The eye Flashcards
(5 cards)
What is the Cornea + function
The front part of the tough outer coat, the sclera, convex, transparent. Refracts light/ bends it as it enters the eye
What is the Iris + function
Pigmented - light cant pass through - muscles contract to alter size of pupil which controls how much light enters the pupil.
What is the lens + function
Flexible disc behind the iris attached by the suspensory ligaments to the ciliary muscles. Focuses light onto the retina
What is the retina + function
The lining of the back of the eye: photoreceptor cells - rods - sensitive to dim light + black + white - and cones - sensitive to colours. Contains the light receptors
What is the optic nerve + function
Bundle of the sensory neurones at the back of eye. Carries impulses from the eye to the brain.
