What was so important about Mecca at the time before Muhammad

A

Mecca was an important trading town in Saudi that many travellers traveled to as it passed through the Mediterranean Sea, it was also an important religious centre that people traveled to to worship the Ka’ba (a stone structure in the middle of Mecca), Arabs worshiped gods that were carved into the Ka’ba, which meant they were polytheistic. This was the ways before Muhammad was born in 570CE

A

Before Muhammad was born his father died, and soon after when Muhammad was 6 his mother died. His grandfather then cared for him, following the death of his grandfather he was taken in by his wealthy merchant uncle

When he was praying that night angel gabriel appeared to Muhammad and Gabriel told him there was only one god, Allah, this is known as a revelation, angel gabriel also told Muhammad that he had been chosen to be the messenger of Allah, this night is known as THE NIGHT OF POWER AND EXCELLENCE, this night is still celebrated annually during the last 10 days of Ramadan

A

Muhammad was initially frightened by the revelation, worried about what had happened he told his wife, Khadijah reassured him, and became the first follower of Islam, Muhammad continued to pray at the top of mount hira, and got passed on more messages, these messages were transferred into the Qur’an, at first Muhammad was banned from preaching about Allah then in 622CE, the local leaders decided to kill him, Muhammad took actions into his own hands.

A

Muhammad went the mount hira and angel Gabriel hold him he had to leave Mecca, and go to medina in 622CE, he left that night with a small group of followers. This journey is known and the Hijra. Muhammad and his few followers had a much warmer welcome in medina, his message about Allah was well received here and quickly people converted to Islam. Medina was where the first mosque was built. Muhammad eventually became the leader of medina

In 629CE, After 7 years of living in medina, Muhammad and his followers decided to return to Mecca. Their return took the followers and Muhammad to surprise, Muhammad and his followers went immediately to the Ka’ba and rid of the gods that were being followed at that time. From now on Islam in a monotheistic religion, followed by Allah
