they did things in public that were unacceptable before. they smoked in public, drank cocktails, cut their hair short and wore pants

a prolonged period of dramatically reduced economic activity

because businesses were producing more goods than people were consuming

because supply was greater than demand

there were few buyers and nobody wanted to buy stocks

businesses that were still in business had to decrease their production. they didnt need as many people working for them so they cut their workforces

they thought these economic difficulties would only be temporary

the government of Canada and Quebec inryoduced various public works programs in order to create jobs for the unemployed. people built public buildings
