Sidartha was a prince and his father (the king) decided that his son must never see suffering. But sidartha got bored and went beyond the palace gates to see lots of suffering. He saw the four sites: old man, sick man, dead man, holy man. Sidartha went to a bodhi tree and sat under it for 49 days. After he was enlightened and was called the Buddha. He then tolled some monks and they became his first followers.
