What is cryptochidism?
Undecended testes
What is the pampiniform plexus?
Its a group of veins in the spermatic cord - it empties into the testicular veins
What is the name for the double layer of tissue around the testes? (Outer most)
Tunica vaginalis
Where do hydroceles occur?
Most commonly found in between the 2 layers of the tunica vaginalis
What is the dense fibrous layer of tissue immediately surrounding and entering the testes?
Tunica albuginea
What is the epididymis responsible for?
For storing sperm in order for them to mature - it also transports them to the ductus (vas) deferens
What is clipped during a vasectomy?
The ductus (vas) deferens
What is the normal measurement for the scrotal wall?
2-8 mm in thickness
What is the normal testicle measurements?
3-5cm in length
2-4cm in width
3cm in thickness
What is the normal epididymis head measurement?
10 -12 mm
What is the most common cancer found in undescended testes?
Seminoma
When does testicular torsion more commonly occur?
Between 12 and 18 years of age
When is the testicle not salvageable after torsion?
After 24 hrs - 80 - 100% success rate if treated with in 6hrs
Where are undescended testes most often located?
The inguinal canal
What is bell clapper deformity
When the patient lacks the normal posterior fixation of the testes and epididymis to the scrotal wall
It is usually bilateral
What is the most common cause of acute scrotal pain in prepubertal boys?
Torsion of the appendix testes
