A

1) nutrition-
* may need support shopping and cooking
* understanding healthy/unhealthy diet and why it’s important
* feeding and swallowing

2) mobility -
*may enjoy exercise but may need someone to go with them eg swim
* may have limited mobility

3) safety-
* may be vulnerable to accidents that put their physical safety at risk eg burning when cooking or too much medication if unsupervised

Intellectual

Name and describe three intellectual needs of someone with a learning disability.

A

1) Stimulation-
* need stimulating activity to suit each individuals level of understanding

2) knowledge of illness/condition-
* may need their illness or condition explained to them in a way they can understand

3) opportunity to learn new skills -
* may need more time to learn but should be given many opportunities depending on their ability

Name and describe three emotional needs of someone with a learning disability

A

1) sense of autonomy-
* they may feel they have no control over what is happening to them eg down syndrome adult may feel they should be able to make more decisions of their own

2) sense of belonging-
* they may feel they don’t belong if people ignore them or don’t take time to communicate with them

3) feeling cared for -
* they need to feel cared for and need people to communicate with them in ways that shows love and support even if they can’t reciprocate eg autism

Describe three social needs of an individual with a learning disability.

A

1) communication-
* might be difficult for them to communicate with others eg people with plmd may have to use noises or facial expressions rather than speach

2) interaction outside the family-
* might be difficult as people may avoid them or not understand them

3) relationships-
* may be difficult for them to establish new relationships eg autism often struggle to interact and find communicating with new people challenging
