The nervous system Flashcards
(12 cards)
What is in the PNS?
All the nerves outside of the nervous system, splits into the Somatic and Autonomic nervous system.
What is the PNS
Peripheral Nervous System
What does the PNS do
Transmits messages to and from the central nervous system.
What is the CNS
Central Nervous System
What is in the CNS?
A system involving the brain and the spinal cord.
What is the brain responsible for?
Responsible for control of behaviour and physiological processes.
What does the spinal cord do?
Transfer messages between the brain and body, controls simple reflex actions.
What does the Somatic nervous system do?
Transmits information between sense organs and the central nervous system.
Controls skeletal muscles.
What does the Autonomic nervous system do?
Transmit information between internal bodily organs. Controls vital automatic functions, heartbeat etc.
What is in the Autonomic Nervous system
Sympathetic branch and parasympathetic branch.
What is the sympathetic branch?
Body’s response to emergencies, readies the body for action. Brings the fight or fight response when met with danger.
What is the parasympathetic branch?
Brings the rest and digest response after meeting danger.
