Q

What does the spinal cord do

A

Relays info from the brain to the rest of the body. Does this by connecting different parts if our body by pairs of nerves. Also performs reflexes without direct involvement

16
Q

Where is the frontal lobe located in the brain

A

at the front of the brain

17
Q

Where is the parietal lobe in the brain

A

top back of the brain

18
Q

Where is the occipital lobe

A

at the bottom of the brain

19
Q

Where is the temporal lobe

A

At the back of the brain

20
Q

What does the thalamus do

A

acts as a relay station in our brain for nerve impulses by routing the impulse to that part if the brain that it is relevant to

21
Q

What does the hypothalamus do

A

brains main link to endocrine system. helps regulate bodies temp and feelings of hunger and thirst

22
Q

What is the brain stem

A

regulates the automatic functions like breathing, heartbeat, digestion, blinking. Motor +sensory neurons travel through brain stem, connected to SC then to rest of body

23
Q

Where is the cerebellum

24
Q

What is the PNS

A

all the nerves that aren’t part of the CNS are in the PNS. It’s job is to relay impulses to and from the CNS to the rest of the body

25
What are the 2 parts of the PNS
the autonomic and somatic nervous system
26
What does the somatic nervous system contain?
made of 12 pairs of cranial nerves that emerge from the bottom of the brain. 31 pairs of spinal nerves that emerge from the spinal cord. Each pair contains a sensory and motor neuron. also involved in reflexive actions
27
What is the autonomic nervous system
carries out functions we dont think about like heartbeat, breathing and digestion, also involved in the fight or flight response
28
What is the autonomic nervous system split into
sympathetic NS and parasympathetic system
29
What neurotransmitter is involved in the sympathetic nervous system
noradrenaline
30
What happens in the flight or flight response(sympathetic NS)
-pupils dilate -Increased heart rate -Release stored energy -lungs expand -produce more sweat -digestion slows -adrenaline released
31
What neurotransmitter in involved in the parasympathetic system
Acetylcholine
32
What happens in the parasympathetic NS
the opposite of the fight or flight response. EG decreased heart-rate
