1
Q

What are elements?

A

An element is a substance that cannot be broken down into any other substance. Every element is made up of its own type of atom. This is why the chemical elements are all very different from each other.

16
Q

How are metals extracted from ores?

A

The method used to extract a metal from its ore depends upon the reactivity of the metal: the oxides of very reactive metals, such as aluminium, form stable oxides and other compounds. A lot of energy is needed to reduce them to extract the metal.

38
An explanation of mixtures
Two or more elements are combined in a way that involves no chemical reactions.
39
Why we may separate mixtures
We may wish it so we can get pure water from water
40
What is the product of a metal + Oxygen E.g. Magnesium + Oxygen -->
A metal oxide. E.g. magnesium oxide
