25

- prophecy was fulfilled in Jeremiah when Herod realized that he was tricked and order all babies to be killed - when they fled to Egypt as mentioned in Hosea - when instead of returning to Bethlehem they went to Nazareth
26
What makes the virgin bith debatable?
How science doesn’t support it, for a baby to be born there is need for fusion of an egg and sperm
27
How do those who don’t agree with the virgin birth say?
- not historical but rather a legendary story ( how it was also announced by an angel ) - the appearance of stars at the birth of Jesus also make it more legendary - how Mary was to conceive from the Holy Spirit is similar to Greek mythology of gods like Zeus having intercourse with humans to produce babies - in the gospel Jesus is often referred to as the son of Mary and Joseph, so if He was the son on the Holy Spirit the gospel should have clearly mentioned it -the virgin birth is not recorder anywhere else in the New Testament, if it really happened they should have been proof of it in the New Testament
28
What do the supporters of the virgin birth say ?
- myths and legends are based on elements of truth hence it could have happened - there was actually a Roman census at that time - Augustus was actually the emperor at the time of Jesus - Quirinius was also the governor of Syria - Herod was also the king at this time - it is true that people from the east were expecting deliverance from the west , hence the wise men from the east came to see Jesus - because Mary and Joseph were betrothed Jesus was bound to be called the son of Joseph by the public
29
What is John trying to say at the beginning of the prologue?
- Jesus was the word that created all which became flesh and came in human form - highlight the closeness of Jesus and God when he says “ the word was with God “ showing that Jesus is the only one who could show the love of God to the people - God crested the world out of nothing which was against the gnostics belief of the world starting with God and materials
30
What was the purpose of John the Baptist ?
To show men the light, lead men to Jesus and revel to them the truth
31
Who did the Jews think would open the way for the Messiah ?
- the Jews thought that Elijah was the prophet who came to open the way for the Messiah but it was actually John
32
What are the suggestions why people came in multitudes to hear John
- he stood up against adultery e.g he rebuked the adulterous relationship between Herod antipasto and herodias, his brothers wife - He live an similar lifestyle to that of Elijah and resembled him
33
How was John’s baptism different from the one they already practiced?
- his would remove sins and total repentance while the ones for the Jews was a ritual which did not change the inner person
34
What was John’s message?
- that he just came as a forerunner of the Messiah - Baptism with water was not enough but the one who would come would baptize with the Holy Spirit
