What does the laborers at the vineyard parable teach about the kingdom of God?(4)
- Just as alluded by the parable during harvest time people would wait by the market seeking for work to do and they would be hired at different times, in the kingdom of God you are all equal regardless of the time you got to know of the word or became a Christian and that it is a privilege to come early into the church
- It was not only in regards to seniority but also the issue of the Jews and Gentiles, in the eyes of God there were all equal
- They all arrived at different times and work for different periods of time but they are given the same pay showing that to God it is not about the amount of service given but rather the love and what little we have to offer
- We can not earn what God has given us, it is simply grace

- mainly directed to the Pharisees and the Scribes(who are the useless servants who stored their talent and did not use it. This was because they believed in keeping the law exactly as it was,any change, development or alternation was taboo, they believed paralysis of religious truth
- It also shows that people in the kingdom are given different gifts that they are supposed to utilize; they were given different quantities of talents 5,2,1 but it want about the quantity but the ability to utilize it
- There were also given according to ability showing that God gives talent as according to abilities
- It also portrays God as the judge who then punished those who don’t utilize their talents

- seed - word
- Farmer - evangelists and preachers
- The ground - the heart of the receiver

- People who hear the word and immediately Satan gets it away
What do the seeds that fell on the rocky ground represent?
- people hear the word of God and are filled with joy for a little while but when trying times come and tribulations they leave

- Those who hear the word but the delights of the world choke them

- people who hear the word, receive it, and bare fruit

- that Gods kingdom is His not ours, no man has the secret of life but God possesses it ( just as the seed possesses the secret of life which the man did not have
- Similar to the growing of a plant which is gradual, you can not notice its growth if you compare day by day but rather by a longer period of time, similarly the kingdom of God is on its way gradually
- Just as nature grows regardless similarly the kingdom of God grows despite of man’s rebellion, nothing can stop it
- Similar to the harvest day when the good fruit is harvested and the weeds are gathered and destroyed so is judgment day

- A mastered seed was the smallest thing likened to faith which does grow into something big
- In the Old Testament a tree is often a symbol of a kingdom and birds are its tributary small kingdoms, similarly the Church of God is to expand where all are can find a place and support

- one should be like children, humble, obedient,trustful and have a forgiving heart
- Children do not bear grudges which is a quality for those who want to enter the kingdom of heaven

- wealth makes entry into the kingdom of God difficult just as the rich young man who could not give away his wealth to the poor
- Wealth open gates to greed, selfishness
- This was contrary to what the Jews though, a man with wealth was blessed by God and had an excellent character
- The statement “ it is easier for a camel to got through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven”

- mentions that the poor will be lifted up and the mighty will be put low
- The kingdom of God does not want those who are proud
- God humbles the rich( for example Christianity is not about amassing knowledge for yourself whilst others are starving and poor in it but rather one must amass information to give out to others

- the woman worked hard to look for the coin just as Jesus does to look for us
- there is joy when thst one coin is found just as a sinner is saved

- unlike the older brother who was like the Pharisees and the Scribes, the father rejoiced despite his son leaving him
