-The word ‘pieta’ comes from the Latin word for holiness. In Italian it means ‘compassion’.
- It is a piece of art depicting Mary holding Jesus’ body after he was taken down from the cross. It can be found in Rome.

A

-Statues of Mary are reminders that God chose a faithful and mild person to be the mother of God, this will act as a reminder of how Catholics should strive to behave.
- Catholic Christians will use the artwork to help them to focus during prayer time and worship, where they will thank Jesus for dying for their sins and giving them the hope for an eternal life with God.
