What does renaissance mean?
The rebirth of European interest in the civilisation of Ancient Greece and Rome. During this period, people began to question old ides from the Middle Ages and develop new ideas about art,architecture,science,literature and medicine
What is humanism?
A shift in mindset from a focus on god to a focus on human knowledge
What is patron?
A wealthy person who commissioned (hired) an artist to produce a work of art for them
What is perspective?
The creation of depth and distance in a painting
What is anatomy?
The study of the structure of a human body
What is the moveable type printing press?
A method of printing books that placed individual metal letters into a frame to from words, coated them with ink and pressed the frame into paper
What is heresy?
Knowingly holding a view that went against the official teachings of the Catholic Church
What was the cause of the renaissance?
The rediscovery of Greek and Roman art, the printing press and the rise of trade and wealth, particularly in Italy.
Who were the Medici family?
They were a very powerful and rich family. They were patrons of the arts, especially Cosimo de Medici (1389-1464) and his grandson lorenzo (1449-1492).
They sponsored artists and architects and they opened schools for the study of Roman and
Greek manuscripts.

What is the differences between medieval and renaissance in art?

What is the printing press?
Before the 1400s. A books in Europe had to be copied by hand. Because of this very few books were in circulation they were very presicous, and very few people
learned to read and write. Gutenberg invented the printing press.
He placed individual metal letters into a frame to form words, coated them with ink and pressed the frame onto paper.
He then moved in letters around in prane to make the next page and so on.
What were the effects of the printing press?
Gurenburgs inverran spread quickly. Printing presses Were operating in every major Europeen cities by 1500.
• This growth in printing had very importent consequenes for European history:
-printed books were much cheaper then hand witten
manuscripts allowing more and more people to buy them.
. Fiction became more popular as people began to read for entertainment.
. The control that the Catholic Church had over warning and ideas declined.
It was now possible for people to challange the Church and spread their
to ideas to a wide audience very quickly . This would be key to the reformation.
• The use of Latin declined as writers wrote in the Vernacular.

He discovered that the heart pumped blood around the body

He was a professor of mathematics in Padua, he discovered lots of things e.g. Saturn has rings. He was the father of astronomy
Who was Nicholas Copernicus?
He was a polish priest and astronomer, he wrote a book called on revolution of heavenly spheres. He discovered that the planets orbit the sun
