Why did the Eauropeans travel over water?
The Muslims had a monopoly over the trade routes on land.
Why did the slave trade begin?
The Europeans needed a work force to produce goods to sell.
Why didn’t the Europeans use their own people as slaves?
The indigenous people had proved unreliable because most of them were not immune to the tropical diseases.

What was the first stage of the triangular trade?
Taking manufactured goods from Europe to Africa, for example: cloths, alcohol, tobacco, beads, guns.
What was the second stage of the triangular trade?
The middle passage. This involved trading goods for slaves and shipping them to the Americas.
What was the last stage of the triangular trade?
The return to Europe from the Americas with goods manufactured by slaves.
Who started the triangular trade?
Portugal lead the original search for other land, and for 200 years had a monopoly over the whole operation.
Who cooperated with the Europeans to trade them slaves?
African kings and merchants along the west coast of Africa.
Who kept the most slaves?
Britain was responsible for 2.5 million of 6 million slaves traded in total, not accounting for the 25 million Africans originally taken.
When did the triangular trade begin and end?
It began in the 15th century and ended in the very early 19th century.
