The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966
- Part of criminal law
-act is to protect the public and prevent unqualifed practice - defines what a veterinary surgery and who can practise veterinary surgery
Veterinary surgery
defined - The art and science of veterinary surgery and medicine and includes
- the diagnosis of diseases and injuries in animals including diagnostic tests
- giving of advice based on such diagnosis
-medical or surgical treatment of animals
- performance of surgical operations on animals
Schedule 3 exemption order
adds exemptions to the general rule
- the owner may administer minor medical treatment to their own animal
- First aid anyone can do
- Veterinary students ( under direction of vets)
RVN- administer any medical treatment and minor surgery
