Define creation.
Making something deliberately or with a purpose. What is made from a design, a plan. The universe was created by God.
What is meant by stewardship?
Looking after something that you do not own for the real owner. A god-given responsibility to care for and look after the world for God who is the real owner.
What does ‘soul’ mean?
The spiritual aspect of human nature that is the real ‘you’ and lives on after death. It allows people to feel connected to and worship God and reflects God in humans.
What happened on each day of creation?
- Earth, space, time and light were created
- The atmosphere was created.
- Land and plants were created.
- The sun, moon and stars were created.
- Sea and flying creatures were created.
- Land animas and man were created.
- Rest.
What do Christians believe about the beginning of the universe?
God created everything for a purpose (some believe in literally six days.) They believe humans were made different from animals “in the image of God”. Creationists take a literal view of the bible stories and believe Eve was really made from Adams rib. Most Christians take non-literal views and understand the world was likely not made in six days.
Some Christians believe that the Big Bang could not have happened by accident and that the universe existing as an accident is as improbable as a tornado blowing through a junkyard and assembling a plane. This is known as INTELLIGENT DESIGN.
What does science teach about the beginning of the universe?
The world was created in billions of years not six days. The universe was caused by a Big Bang, radiation from this has been detected in the atmosphere. Stephen Hawking used quantum physics to prove that the universe could’ve been created from nothing. Humans evolved through natural selection. Eve was not created from Adams rib. Darwin created the theory of evolution.
What are the beliefs about humans compared to animals? (4)
- Humans are different from animals as they have a soul.
- Humans have knowledge- they can think, reflect, learn and reason.
- Humans have morality- they can differentiate between right and wrong.
- Humans have language- They can read, write and learn languages.
What do Christians believe about stewardship?
The bible teaches that humans should use their talent to take care and responsibility for the world.

“ God said let them have dominion stewards over the fish of the sea “. This means humans are to be stewards. “Having dominion “can also mean humans have control and power and use the Earth in any way they want.

Islamic teachings about stewardship.
The Quran states “Allah has made you his ruling agents in the Earth “.
Which means that humans are to act as Khalifas or guardians of the planet. They will be judged on the day of the judgement as to whether they have been good Khalifa or not.
Definition of conception.
When sperm and egg meets and begins a pregnancy. The moment a life begins.
Define conscience.
A sense that guides actions and responses.
Define quality of life.
The extent to which life is meaningful and pleasurable and when a person feels value and capability of contributing to human life.
What is sanctity of life?
Life is sacred and priceless. The belief that only God can give life and take it away.
What is free will?
The belief that nothing is determined- humans are free to make their own choices and decisions.
What is meant by medical ethics?
Moral principles that affect medicine and medical practices
What is the Hippocratic oath?
A special promise made by doctors stating they will do their best to preserve or save a life.
Definition of euthanasia.
Helping someone who wants to die to die peacefully and with dignity. Gentle death/ mercy killing.
What does Christianity teach about euthanasia?
Christianity has arguments both allowing and against euthanasia. Some arguments In order to allow euthanasia are: God gave people dominion over the Earth and they should be able to make the decision that euthanasia may be the right thing to do. People have been given free will and are able to make educated choices to end their own lives. However others argue euthanasia is wrong this is because: God might have sent suffering for a purpose and we should learn from it rather than avoid it, every person is made in God’s image including the disabled and the ill and therefore should be valued.

God is love and stopping suffering is a loving thing to do. God would want people to have quality of life and if they don’t then euthanasia may be an option. Jesus said “love your neighbour as you love yourself “euthanasia is lovely if you save your neighbour from pain misery. Christian called Anne Turner went to Switzerland to kill herself as she had PSP-she would have ended up unable to move speak or even blink and would had died a painful death.

The Bible says “the human body is the temple of the Holy Spirit “. This means that God lives in people. The Bible also says “thou shall not murder.” God will not test us beyond our strength and will help us endure testing this means he’s allowed people to suffer will help them endure pay. The Bible says “in his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of every human being “-this suggests that I’ve belongs to God and that we should not take it.
What does Islam teach about euthanasia?
Euthanasia is not allowed Because Muslims believe that Allah decides when a person dies. The Quran says “no one dies unless Allah permits. The time of every life is fixed”. Allah has already decided how long everyone is to live it’s not for the individual to decide.Euthanasia is Suicide and suicide is forbidden. Muhammad taught that “whoever commits suicide with something will be punished with that same thing in hellfire “. Allahs plan for your life May involve suffering and only Allah knows the true reasons for suffering because it is sent as a test. Any person asking to die is claiming to know better than Allah that they are ready for death.
What do Muslims believe about life after death?
Muslims believe that everything they do in their life is recorded and will be used as evidence on the day of judgement. On the day of judgement good deeds must outweigh the bad deeds. If you are righteous of paradise the you will cross the bridge of as-Sirat into paradise (Jannah) and the unrighteous will fall off the bridge into Hell (Jahannam). Muslims call this eternal life AKHIRAH.
