Why is it intresting that scrooge was such an antithesis (oppostie) to Dickens idea about family embodying joy etc..

A

it could be argued that Scrooge begins the novella as the complete ​antithesis ​(direct opposite) to these ideas.

This introduces the idea that the absence of family may be one of the key factors which contributed to Scrooge’s initially abhorrent characterisation.

A

generates a positive atmosphere affecting both Scrooge and the tone of narration.

Prior to his arrival Dickens focuses on cold, gloomy imagery.

A

She states she has been replaced by a ‘golden’ idol-Scrooges ‘passion and pursuit for money.

This means thwta scrooges obsesstion for money has affceted is oppoturnity to kindle love and have a family.

He then sees Belle with her children and forces him to think what it would be like to have children - fam more imp than money.
