Thermal energy
The total amount of kinetic energy and internal energy contained within molecules
Temperature
The average kinetic energy in a substance
Heat
The transfer of thermal energy from high temperature to lower temperature
Conduction
Heat transfer facilitated by physical conduct. Thermal energy moves from object to object.
Convection
Heat transfer facilitated by fluids rising due to differences in density. Thermal energy moves up through a medium
Thermal radiation
Heat transfer facilitated by light moving from place to place. Usually only identified if an object is changing temperature
Specific heat capacity
How much energy is required to increase 1kg of the material by 1c.
Latent heat
The energy absorbed or released by a substance during a phase change.
