Thermal Physics Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
What are properties of a Kelvin Scale
A
- There is no upper fixed point
- The lower fixed point is absolute zero temperature i.e 0K
- It is a theoretical scale i.e it is not based on any physical property
2
Q
Define Ideal gas
A
Any gas which follows the relationship PV=nRT for all the values of pressure, volume and temperature
3
Q
Assumptions on Kinetic Energies
A
- Gas molecules are in continuous random motion
- There are zero intermolecular forces of attraction between ideal gas molecules
- Volume of the gas is negligible as compared to the volume of the container
- Gas molecules perform perfectly elastic collisions with the walls of the container
- Ideal gas molecules behave as perfect spheres
4
Q
Define Avogadro’s constant
A
The number of atoms present in 0.012kg of carbon-12
5
Q
Why is speed written as
A
Since there are large numbers of molecules per unit volume therefore speed is taken to be mean average hence
