thigh region Flashcards
(36 cards)
what is spiral line of femur?
line that is continuous with intertrochanteric line. Remember where it is for exam.
origin and insertion of iliopsoas muscle
origin: psoas major 0 T12 to L5 vertebrae. Iliacus - iliac fossa
insertion: lesser trochanter of femur
what is major action of iliopsoas?
major flexor of thigh
what innervates iliopsoas?
ventral rami of lumbar nerves and femoral nerve
What muscle in the anterior compartment of the thigh is not innervated by the femoral nerve?
the tensor fascia lata, which is innervated by the superior gluteal nerve
which quadriceps femoris muscle does not originate at shaft of femur?
rectus femoris: origin anterior inferior iliac spine. acetabular brim.
where do all quadriceps femoris muscles insert?
patella and then into tibial tuberosity via ligamentum patellae.
What do all quadriceps femoris muscles do?
extend the leg
where does articularis genu originate? insert?
origin: shaft of femur
insert: capsule of knee joint
where does tensor fascia lata originate? insert?
origin: gluteal surface of ala of ilium
insert : iliotibial tract. gerdy’s tubercle on lateral condyle of tibia
what is the action of tensor fascia lata?
stabilizes the hip joint. steadies femur on the tibial condyles.
origin and insertion points of sartorius
origin: anterior superior iliac spine
insertion: pes anserinus (superior part of medial surface of shaft of tibia)
action of sartorius
abducts, flexes, and laterally rotates the thigh. flexes and medially rotates the leg.
what action is the rectus femoris’s alone?
flexes the thigh
what action is the vastus medialis alone?
pulls patella medially
what action is the vastus lateralis alone?
pulls patella laterally
what is action of articularis genu?
retracts the capsule of the knee joint during extension
what muscle of medial compartment of thigh is not innervated by obturator nerve?
pectineus
origin and insertion of pectineus
o: superior ramus of pubis
i: shaft of femur
action of pectineus
adduct the thigh
origin and insertion of gracilis
o: body and inferior ramus of pubis
i: pes anserinus
action of gracilis:
adducts the thigh. flexes and medially rotates the leg
where do all aductor muscles of medial compartment insert?
shaft of femur
where does adductor longus originate?
body of pubis
