SUBCOSTAL Nerve
typical intercostal nerve
3-6th and run along the posterior intercostal space between the parietal pleura and the internal intercostal membrane
-near the angle of the ribs the nerves are between the inner most intercostal muscle and the intercostal the continue in the costal groove
What happens when the nerves wrap around and get to the sternum?
they innervate the costal cartilage and enter the subcutaneous tissue as anterior cutaneous branches
atypical intercostal nerves
1st and 2nd and 7th through 11th
-the 1st and 2nd run on the internal surface of the rib instead of the costal groove
why do we have to anesthetize two or more intercostal nerves
bc there is overlapping of adjacent dermatones
-make sure to get the nerves superior and inferior to the rib
what lies most superior to the intercostal grooves
veins
where to posterior intercostal veins end
azygos/hemizygos
what muscles are involved when pt with dyspnea is trying to break
sternecleidomastoid, upper trap and scalene
level of manubrium
t3 t4 and is anterior to aorta arch
