A

Jan 1919

Before democracy, just after war, no gov.
POLITICAL VACUUM

Why did the Spartacist uprising take place?

A

Spartacists wanted full-scale communist revolution
Did not trust Ebert or new gov.
Wanted change: lack of food, no gov., hoped the army would join them in the revolution

A

Jan 1919 - workers protested, spartacists took this as chance to start revolution
Gov. newspaper and telegraph headquarters being taken over in Berlin

A

Army was called in
Freikorps - anti-communists
Over 100 workers were killed

A

Not very serious
Spartacists had not planned very well
Had expected help but received none
But at beginning, had potential to be very serious as they could’ve taken over
