what is a thyroidectomy?
preopertive interventions
- assess hyperglycemia
administer medications
perform cough and breathing exercise
postoperative
- respiratory distress
- have trachy on bed side
- limit client talking and assess hoarness
- avoid neck flexion
- monitor signs of hypoclacemia and tetany - reason could be damage to parathyroid on the side
- adminsiter calcium gluconate
life long usage of levo
removal of the thyroid gland
