What are the investigation for thyroid cancer?

A

BLOODS
-TSH/T4 = normal

BIOPSY
-Fine needle aspiration = cytology carcinoma

IMAGING

  • Ultrasound = nodules, irregular lumps
  • CT/MRI = metastatic spread

How is thyroid cancer managed?

A

Total thyroidectomy - risks bleeding, infection, recurrent laryngeal nerve damage, hypoparathyroidism

Radioactive iodine ablation

Levothyroxine = TSH suppression

Sorafenib if metastatic
