What is a thyroid Nodule?
A
A lump that develops in the thyroid, can be solid or fluid filled, singular or multiple

What are the causes? (4)
A
Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, Hyperplasia due to Hypothyroidism, Excess TSH, Thyroid Cancer

Are they dangerous?
A
Not really, 90% are benign

Are they common?
A
4-7% of adults have a palpable thyroid nodule

Symptoms
A
Usually asymptomatic, generally coincidental and seen in the mirror, may have symptoms of hypo/hyper, dysphagia, hoarse voice, pain

How can you identify a thyroglossal cyst?
A
It moves on swallowing and tongue protrusion

What investigations?
A
TFTs, Thyroid ultrasound, Fine needle aspiration

What is the treatment?
A
Treat the cause, thyroidectomy, leave alone if asymptomatic
