Q

What is the difference between and interference and non-interference engine design?

A

Interference engines: If the camshaft and crankshaft are of time, the pistons can collide with one or more valves. A broken timing belt can even damaged pistons or crack cylinder heads.

Non-interference engines: will have space between the valves and the pistons in any position of the crank - making collision impossible.
