: )
What are some of the components the timing belt interacts with? (
Camshaft gear
Crankshaft gear
Water pump
Idler pulley
Timing belt tensioner
Do all vehicles have a timing belt? Why or why not?
No, many do though some will use a chain or sprocket system (like a bike) while others may use gears.
Do timing belts last forever?
No - common replacement intervals are 90,000km and 140,000km.
What is the difference between and interference and non-interference engine design?
Interference engines: If the camshaft and crankshaft are of time, the pistons can collide with one or more valves. A broken timing belt can even damaged pistons or crack cylinder heads.
Non-interference engines: will have space between the valves and the pistons in any position of the crank - making collision impossible.
