Q

What are the four types of tissue?

A
  1. Epithelial - body linings internal and external
  2. Muscle - movement
  3. Neural - transmits electrical signals
  4. Connective - cushioning, storage, and support.

Q

What is the function and location of simple squamous epithelium?

A

Function: diffusion and filtration which allows for easy exchange of substances in the body
Location: lungs, blood vessels, and body cavities.

Looks like eggs; no good picture on here.

Q

What is the function and location of stratified squamous epithelium?

A

Function: physical protection against abrasion, pathogens, and chemical attack
Location: the lining of body openings (throat, vagina, anus).

Multiple layers of flat cells.

Q

What is the function and location of adipose tissue?

A

Function: provides cushioning and insulates
Location: in the deeper layers of the skin surrounding organs.

16
Q

What is the function and location of reticular tissue?

A

Function: provides supporting framework
Location: liver, kidney, spleen.

17
Q

What is the function and location of dense regular connective tissue?

A

Function: connects bones and muscles and is incredibly strong
Location: between muscles and skeletal bones (makes up tendons and ligaments).

18
Q

What is the function and location of dense irregular connective tissue?

A

Function: provides strength to resist force from many directions
Location: in your skin, surrounding your muscles.

19
Q

What is the function and location of elastic tissue?

A

Function: energy saver, allows vertebrae to return back to their original position after moving
Location: between vertebrae.

Looks similar to dense regular but has spaces in between the waves.

20
Q

What is blood?

A

A fluid connective tissue.

Red - oxygen movement; White - part of your immune system.

21
Q

What is lymph?

A

Another fluid connective tissue; the fluid that travels through the lymphatic system.

22
Q

What is the function and location of hyaline cartilage?

A

Function: provides stiff but flexible support, reduces friction between bones
Location: major joints.

23
Q

What is the function and location of elastic cartilage?

A

Function: provides support but can move yet return back to its original shape
Location: most of your external ear.

24
Q

What is the function and location of fibrous cartilage?

A

Function: shock absorber
Location: in pads within knee joint, in between vertebrae discs.

25
Where will all cartilage cells be located?
In clusters.
