3 categories of TMJ dysfunction
- myofascial pain dysfunction
- internal derangement injury
- degeneration jnt disease
Myofascial pain syndrome
MPD
syndrome primarily involving m. of mastication, and frequently provoked by somatic dysfunction elsewhere in the body
internal derangement injury
ID
abnormal rel btw the articular disc and the mandibular condyle, including acute disc displacement and chronic recurrent dislocations
Degeneration jnt disease
DJD
a degeneration of the articular surfaces with the TMJ
conditions associated with pelvic floor dysfunction
- urinary stress incontinence
- fecal incontinence
- sexual dysfunciton
- pelvic relaxation
- levator ani syndrome
- chronic low back pain
- chronic palvis pain
causes of pelvic floor dysfunction
- influenced by aging and menopause
- chronic constipation and straining during defecation can lead to anorectal incontinence and outstretched perineum and sphincter denervation
- chronic coughing can also strain pelvic floor
