(17 cards)
Ecosystem
a community of living organism and the non living components of the environment.
community
a group of populations of different species living in a specific area of an ecosystem
population
a group of organisms of the same species living in the same area at the same time
individual
a single organism of a species
species
is a group of individuals who can successfully reproduce with one another
abiotic
abiotic contains non living parts in a ecosystem like the sun and water
biotic
biotic contains living parts in a ecosystem like plants and animals
habitat
habitat is a combination of biotic and abiotic things that an organism needs to survive
geosphere
the rock part of the earth
hydrosphere
the water part of the earth
atmosphere
the air part of the earth
biosphere
everything living
interconnectedness
everything is connected in a ecosystem
Describe the abiotic and biotic factors which affect the distribution of living organisms
These influences can involve biotic interactions like competition, predation, and disease, or abiotic factors like severe weather, flooding, drought, and fire.
What limits where plant species survive?
Abiotic Factors. The most recognizable limitations to the geographic distribution of a species include insurmountable physical barriers, such as mountains, oceans, rivers, deserts, and, more recently, expansive human development.
Why would an organism have a limited distribution?
Uniform distributions are found in populations in which the distance between neighboring individuals is maximized.
Describe the interaction of the spheres of Earth, in terms of interconnectedness
The surface of the geosphere, where the rocky part of our planet is in contact with water, air, and/or life is generally where the spheres intersect and affect each other.
