Topic 1 - Meninges, Ventricular system and CSF production Flashcards
(9 cards)
Meninges function
Protecting the brain, we cannot see the brain because of the meninges
Carrying the CSF
Meninges layers
Dura mater
Arachnoid mater
Pia mater
Ventricular system structure
Lateral ventricles
Third ventricle
IV ventricle
CSF functions
The CSF provides necessary molecules to the nervous system
Protects the nervous system physically
Hydrocephalus
There is a pathology in a developing brain like in a child, where the cerebral acquadut is too little
Superior sagittal sinus
It’s a big blood vessel between the two hemispheres.
The CSF is drained out into the superior sagittal sinus, filtered through Arachnoid granulations
What is CSF
Blood plasma filtered from the choroid plexus (plasma + vitamins, ions, glucose, oxygen etc..)
Where CSF leaves the ventricles and reaches the subarachnoid space
Foramen of Luschka
Foramen of Magendie
Choroid plexus
The highly vascular tissue that protrudes into the ventricles and produces cerebrospinal fluid.
