Definition of spatial scales
Spatials scales is the extent of an area in which a phenomenon or process takes place
heirachy of spatial scales meaning and examples
refers to the ranking based on the size of an area. Eg, global, regional and local
What does global mean?
whole world
What does international mean?
Occuring in/between 2/more countries
What does national mean?
The whole country
What are nested areas?
It refers to the smaller areas located within larger areas
Why is knowing spatial scales important?
Spatial scales help us see how events in one place can affect people and nature in other places
Town centres have integrated transport hubs where bus interchanges and train stations are near shopping malls. How is this beneficial?
- the convenience of the town may attract visitors from other towns to visit, making it practicla of shopping malls to be located there
- It may also attract businesses to locate theri offices in these towns as the lower cost and reduced travveling time can be taken advantage of for their workers
What are the different spatial hierachies can we observe in Singapore, in order?
Residential Unit, Precinct, Neighbourhood, Town
Why is town planning important?
Creates connections and synergies across precincts, neighbourhoods and towns.
