topic 15 Flashcards
(28 cards)
what is elatsic
the change in shape of the object is reversed when the force is removed
what is inelastic
when the change in shape is not reversed when the force is removed this results in a permeant change in shape
what is the aim of the required pratical in the chnage in extention of the springs
investigate the relationship between the force , extentsion and the work done extending on a spring
what do you do first in the required pratical in the springs
secure a clamp stand to the bench ising a g-clamp
what is the second thing you do in the required pratical in the springs
use bosses to attach 2 clamps to the clamp stand
what is the third thing you do in the required pratical in the springs
attach the spring to the top of the clamp and the ruler to the botttom of the clamp
what is the fourth thing you do in the required practical with the springs
adjust the ruler to it is vertical with the top of the spring
what is the fifth thing you do in the required practical with the springs
measure the recorded unloaded length of the spring and add different weights and measure the extension
the independent variable in the required practical with the springs is
the added force/weight
the dependent variable in the required practical with the springs is
the extension
what does an elastic material do when the force is removed
it regains it’s shape
what does a plastic material do when its force is removed
it remains permently deformed
what is the limit of proportionality
the maximum force of which the object obeys hooke’s law
what is the elastic limit
beyond this limit the spring or material is permenately stretched
what is hooke’s law
the extension of a spring is directly proprtional to the stretching force provided if the limit of proportinality isn’t exceeded
force
spring constant times extension
what force is measured in
newtons(n)
what the spring constant measured in
newtons per m (n/m)
what is the extension measured in
metres (m)
what is pressure
ratio of contact force on an object and the surface area where the force is exerted
what is pressure measured in
pascals or newton per meter
if the surface area descreases on an objsct
the pressure increases
pressure
force/area
what does a fluid object experience
An object in a fluid experiences a pressure caused by both the fluid itself and the atmospheric pressure.
