Q

receptors generally contain special ion channels on their surface which will be affected by the stimulus:

A

-the stimulus will cause those ion channels in the membrane to open or close
-this causes a change in the polarisation
-this causes an action potential which in turn means an impulse is sent

Q

define Thermoreceptors and where they are found:

A

-able to respond to heat and cold
-found in the skin and hypothalamus
hypothalamus=the thermoreceptors here monitor our core body temp, by detecting the temp of the blood flowing through our brain
skin=these receptors inform the brain of changes in the temp outside the body. this infor is recieved by the hypothalamus and cerebrum

in the skin they are nerve endings that are sensitive to either cold or hot but not both
