Topic 2 - movement analysis Flashcards
(15 cards)
What is a lever in PE?
A rigid bar that moves about a fixed point when force is applied to it.
What is the fulcrum in lever systems and how is it shown in a diagram?
The joint where the lever arm pivots and it is shown as a triangle.
What is the effort in lever systems and how is it shown in a diagram?
The force applied by the muscles to the lever arm. It is shown by an arrow pointing in the direction of the force.
What is the load or resistance in the lever system and how is it shown in a diagram?
It is the load or resistance against the pull of the muscles on the lever arm. Shown by a square.
What are the three types of lever systems?
First class
Second class
Third class
Define a first class lever.
Where the load and effort are at opposite ends and the fulcrum is in the middle.
Define second class lever.
The fulcrum and effort are at opposite ends and the load is in the middle. The load is in the middle.
Define third class lever.
The fulcrum and load are at opposite ends of the lever. The effort is in the middle.
What is the equation for mechanical advantage?
Mechanical advantage = effort arm / weight arm
Do third class levers have higher or lower mechanical advantage than second class levers?
Second class levers have higher mechanical advantage?
