  1. Spanish raids did sometimes successfully attack (Cornwall 1595)
  2. Spain was much wealthier
  3. They had no real organised military that had a major impact, i.e. Essex, Drake, Hawkins and Raleigh as war funded by joint-enterprise.
  4. The three Armada’s were serious threats that were lucky to be defeated by the weather, 1588, 1596, 1597
