What is an ecosystem?
An ecosystem describes all the living and non-living aspects of an environment
What is a biome?
A large scale ecosystem found across the globe, each biome has it’s own group of plants and animals and it’s own climate
What are the conditions like in the Tundra?
Very cold winters and cool summers with very little precipitation
What are the conditions like in the Boreal Forest?
Very cold winters and mid-temperature summers with very little precipitation (especially in summer)
What are the conditions like in the Temperate Forest?
Warm summers and cool winters with precipitation all year round
What are the conditions like in the Temperate Grasslands?
Hot in the summer and very cold in the winter with some precipitation
What are the conditions like in the Deserts?
Very hot all year but very cool at nights with low levels of precipitation all year round
What are the conditions like in the Tropical Grasslands?
Hot all year with some rainfall but always a dry period
What are the conditions like in the Tropical Rainforest?
Hot all year and wet all year
What is the definition of ‘goods’?
Physical materials that people may collect and sell such as timber and wood
What is the definition of ‘services’?
Functions of different parts in an ecosystem e.g how trees prevent flooding
What is the defenition of TNC’s?
Companies that operate in multiple different countries
What are the main 3 things people are destroying ecosystems for?
