  • six farm labours got wages cut = struggle to pay for families
  • 1833 hey set up a union THE FRIENDLY SOCIETY OF AGRICULTURAL LABOURS = swear a secret oath to the support of the union = owners cut wages more instead of increasing them
  • old naval war = ban the secret oaths
  • labours arrested and sent to austrailia
  • riots and petitions with 200,000 signatures the gove allow them to return home in 1838

- 12,000 dockers competed for 5,000 jobs = down wages
- august 1889 strike until they were paid 6 pence and hour and given shifts of minimum 4 hrs
- pickets stopped people from reaching ships
- 30,000 donated to the dockers by Australia
- september deeds were met
