A
- date of insertion
- Indication for trachaeostomy
- known underlying complication
- Anticoagulation
- Recent URTI or LRTI
- Duration of bleeding
- Tubing: Brand, ?inner tube, ?cuff

Complications of Trachaeostomy
A
- Tube dislodgement
- Obstruction - oxygenate from above, replace tube if >14 days
- Bleeding : (<2 weeks old) infection/suctioning Mx: inflate cuff, apply direct pressure, topical silver nitrate
Bleeding : > 2weeks old: - Tracheoinominate fistula (trachea-innominate artery)
- Thyroid vessel erosion
- Infection
- Granulation tissue

Management of low rate bleeding
A
- Inspect site
- Mild manipulation
- Suction to clear any clot
- Cauterise bleed from granulation tissue
- Inflate balloon to 50ml & gentle traction

Management of Catastrophic bleeding
A
- Ventilate from above
- Remove trachaeostomy
- Intubate from above
- Insert finger into stoma & pull anteriorly to occlude Innominate artery.
