training principles Flashcards
what is RPE
Rate of perceived exertion (RPE), a quantitative measure, the performers own perception of the training stress from 1-10.
identify progression (overload)
there will be no improvement in personal fitness levels without progressively increasing or overloading the existing training levels.
what are the two guildelines for progression or overload.
- only increase work load by 10% of previous load.
- only make changes to 1 variable at a time.
identify diminishing returns
each individuals has a genetic potential for fitness. an untrained performer will show greater initial improvement. As a performer get close to their ultimate potential, the rate of improvement slow down significantly.
why is variety is important?
keep athletes motivated and different training stimulus may lead to enhanced improvement.
