Flashcards in TRANSPORT Movement And Energy Deck (14):
What happens to energy during an objects movement?
It changes from one form to another.
How happens to the total amount of energy?
It remains unchanged
What is the principle of the conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be made or destroyed.
Give examples of energy transformations in a car journey? (Acceleration, braking and uphill)
Acceleration; chemical to kinetic
Braking; kinetic to heat
Uphill; chemical to energy
What is work done?
A measure of the energy transformed during an energy transformation.
What is work done measures in?
What is power?
The rate at which energy is transformed
What is power measured in?
What is the change in gravitational potential energy?
The work done against gravity
What is gravitational potential energy measured in?
What is kinetic energy?
The energy an object has due to motion
What does kinetic energy depend on?
Mass and speed. Increasing either increases kinetic energy.
How could you tell an appliance was more powerful?
Used up energy at a faster rate.
