What is the definition of an Aviation Occurence

A

Any accident or incident that is associated with the operation of aircraft

What is an aviation accident?

A

A accident is where:
- A person sustains serious injury or is killed
- The AC sustains substantial damage (structural failure or damage that adversely affects the AC’s performance)
- The AC is missing or inaccessible

What is an aviation incident?

A

An incident results directly from the operation of an aircraft greater than 2250kgs (5000lbs) or is in 703, 704, or 705 operations…that has something happen thats not an accident

In the event of an accident, what should you do?

A

-Refer to your school/company’s Emergency Response Plan and follow procedures
-Report the accident as soon as possible
-Procedures on how to report an occurence (accident or incident) can be found in the AIM (GEN section 3.3) or by contacting the nearest FIC/FSS at 1 866 WX BRIEF
