how to do direct colour testing
view the teeth directly with and without light
what does normal colour mean in direct colour testing
healthy
what does grey colour mean in direct colour testing
what does pink colour mean in direct colour testing
how to do trans colour testing test
shine light through the tooth and view it in the mirror
what are you looking for in trans colour test
incomplete cracks and craze lines
how to do alveolar tenderness test
palpate with fingertip
what are the outcomes of alveolar tenderness test
what may tenderness indicate in alveolar tenderness test
infection
how to test for a sinus
review mucosa in good lighting
what may a sinus indicate
what should you do at the same time as TTP testing
percussion note
how to do TTP and percussion note
what are the outcomes of TTP and percussion note
what may tenderness from TTP indicate
apical pathology
what may an abnormal percussion note indicate
An abnormal sound may indicate ankylosis (high pitched).
But be wary of teeth with large composite restorations which sound slightly different to healthy tooth
how to do mobility testing
Gently test the tooth with
either 2 blunt instruments
(Handles) or with one
instrument and 1 finger
what does abnormally loose mobility indicate
Abnormally loose could be as a result of infection,
resorption or a root fracture (Which should be
known from initial findings
what is no mobility associated with
ankylosis
what is residual mobility associated with
Residual mobility from luxation/subluxation may be
observed if the review is shortly after the accident
how to do EPT testing
Place EPT tip with
toothpaste on dry teeth
incisal edge. Relocate if
large restoration present
if a tooth doesnt respond to EPT what does this tell us
Less reliable test and assesses nerve rather than pulpal status. A tooth may not respond but still have an intact blood supply
how to do ECL
Place cold stimulus on
labial aspect of tooth
what does no response from ECL tell us
Less reliable test and assesses nerve rather than pulpal status. A tooth may not respond but still have an intact blood supply
