Treatment for Covid Flashcards

1
Q

Remdesivir

A

IV

MOA: prodrug; monophosphate –> remdesivir-triphosphate
-Adenosine analog that acts as an inhibitor of RNA-dependent RNA polymerase

AE:
-Increase liver enzymes
-Infusion-related reactions

Q

Nirmatrelvir/Ritonavir

A

Paxlovid

MOA:
Nirmatrelvir: SarsCoV2 protease inhibitor –> decreased viral replication
Ritonavir: boaster, CYP3A4 inhibitor –> supports “longevity” of nirmatrelvir

Efficacy: decreased hospitalizations and death by 89% (when given within 3 days of symptom onset)

Indication: >12y/o and high risk of developing a severe case of COVID19 (e.g. cancer, diabetes, obesity or others; or >65y/o)

AE:
diarrhea
dysgeusia (task disturbances)

Q

Molnupiravir

A

PO

*If nirmatrelvir/ritonavir and remdesivir not available

MOA: prodrug; nucleoside analog gets incorporated into SARS-CoV2 RNA by viral polymerase –> accumulation of errors in viral genome and inhibition of viral replication

AE: dizziness, diarrhea
