Q

When updating trauma memories, what happens after imaginal?

A

Socratic questioning to generate alternative explanations of what happened - modifies the negative appraisals

Compelling alternative - actively integrated in trauma memory. Can be achieved through written account/ insert into subsequent imaginal reliving.

Verbal means sometimes not enough = get client to walk around if they thought they were paralysed

Imagery techniques (e.g visualising healing, if they thought they would be ugly can help) = less threatening appraisal
